Providence House Assisted Living
Philosophy
The Beechwood Memory Care Program at Providence House Assisted Living provides care for residents with a diagnosis of dementia, resulting from Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders. The therapeutic environment is designed to enhance the quality of life for residents whose cognitive abilities have been compromised by the disease process associated with dementia.
The Beechwood Memory Care Program employs a Person Centered approach to care, in conjunction with the Habilitation model as put forth by the Alzheimer’s Association. Wellness will be encouraged through enrichment programs that support each resident’s mental, physical and spiritual well-being. Staff will be afforded the opportunity to develop expertise in Alzheimer’s disease through day- to-day experience and in-service training in behavioral approaches and communication skills. Appropriate recreational activities and a structured, consistent program will significantly decrease undesired behaviors such as wandering, agitation and aggression.
Dignity, self-esteem, privacy and respect are emphasized. Independence is encouraged in order to decrease excess disability and enhance emotional well-being. Behavioral management programs emphasize interventions that allow freedom of expression, but also protect residents’ rights.
It is also important to emphasize that the Beechwood Memory Care Program at Providence House Assisted Living has a primary focus to offer residential care for individuals with dementia through the Early to Middle Stages of the illness. It is anticipated the need may arise to call upon our transfer relationships with other providers which have specifically designed and staffed programs that provide skilled nursing care during the late stage of the illness. Care planning for this later stage is based on each resident’s unique journey through the disease process.
